On Monday afternoon the Willoughby South Rebels bowling team hosted the Wickliffe Blue Devils at Wickliffe Lanes. The Rebels entered the match 14-0, the Blue Devils were 9-4. The match was close throughout, but in the end the Blue Devils came out on top 5-4.

The Blue Devils took game one 924-901. Wickliffe Junior Michael May led all bowlers in the game with a 244. The Blue Devils had three bowlers over 200, including Freshman Tony Maar, Jr. with a 222 and Junior Brayden Morris with a 200.

Game two looked like the momentum in the match had switched to the Rebels as they pounded Wickliffe 1029-754. Every South bowler rolled at least a 190. The high bowler in the game was South’s Anthony Shields with a 233. Zach Schaedel also had a nice 215 for the Rebels. May led the Blue Devils with a 201.

Entering the three Bakers games, the match was tied 2-2. Bakers are worth one point each. The Rebels led total pins which is worth two point 1930-1678.

The Blue Devils had struggled in Baker games all season, never able to put three good games together. That all changed on Monday. Game one was close, but the Blue Devils prevailed with a 181 and the Rebels managed only 169. Game two was even closer as the Rebels threw a 192, but the Blue Devils were just a little better as they rolled a 200. Finally, in game three the Blue Devils took control of the game early and finished the match off by shooting a 211 with South managing only a 166. The 502 Baker total was a high this season for Wickliffe.

The Rebels had not lost a regular season match since the 2017-18 season until the Blue Devils defeated them on Monday. The last loss for the Rebels was to the Blue Devils over two years ago.
Both teams will be in action again on Wednesday. The Rebels take on rival Eastlake North at 4:00 p.m. at Wickliffe Lanes, it will be senior night for the Rebels. The Blue Devils will travel to the Roll House in Solon to take on the Kenston Bombers also at 4:00 p.m.
