Minor Akron’s Todd Hankins drilled a key RBI triple during a three-run seventh inning rally Monday night as the RubberDucks slipped by the Binghamton Mets, 4-1, in the opener of a three-game series at Canal Park.

Turning Point
With the score tied, 1-1, the RubberDucks scored three times in the 7th inning to assume a 4-1 lead. Facing B-Mets starter Rainy Lara (1-1), Yandy Diaz singled to start the inning. Jeremy Lucas was hit by a pitch. While Lara struck out Eric Stamets for the first out, Diaz stole third. The Mets then turned to right-hander Luis Mateo, who uncorked a wild pitch allowing Diaz to score and give the Ducks a 2-1 lead. Hankins followed with a triple to right to score Lucas to make it 3-1, and Clint Frazier capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to drive in Hankins to extend the lead to 4-1.

Winging It
Three Akron pitchers combined on a four-hitter. Starter Adam Plutko pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning, but gave up a two-out solo homer to the Mets’ Dominic Smith to tie the game, 1-1. Plutko gave up just three-hits on the night and struck out four, but settled for the no-decision. J.P. Feyereisen (1-0) entered the game following the Smith homer and retired Mike Oberste to end the Mets seventh. Feyereisen then worked a scoreless eighth before turning the ball over to Ben Heller, who retired the side in order in the ninth for his four save. Feyereisen claimed his first Double-A win.

Duck Tales
Bradley Zimmer got the RubberDucks on the board in the first inning with an RBI double off Lara. Zimmer’s hit scored Lonnie Chisenhall who had also doubled. Chisenhall and Michael Brantley both started the game on minor league rehab assignments. Frazier doubled in the third inning to extend his hitting streak to 10 games. He has hit safely in all the games he has played and is now batting .326.
