(PAINESVILLE, OH) - After starting the season with a win defeating the Lakeside Dragons 55-14 in week one of the high school football season the Eastlake North Rangers traveled to Jack Britt Stadium to take on the Painesville Harvey Red Raiders who were also 1-0 after taking down the Berkshire Badgers 57-41 in a high scoring affair led by USC commit Shahn Alston who carried the ball for a record eight touchdowns in the victory.

Friday night was a different story as the Rangers jumped on the Red Raiders immediately taking a 7-0 lead on a two-yard touchdown run by senior Brayden Sandstrom just 1:35 into the contest and went on to dominate the Red Raiders 47-22.

After Harvey went three and out on their first possession of the game North responded on just four plays capped off by a 41-yard touchdown run by senor Alexavier Harris putting the Rangers on top 14-0 and the route was on.

At halftime the Rangers led 27-7 and it was apparent the Rangers’ run game was not going to be contained by the Red Raiders defense.

Harvey’s offense showed signs of life and cut the North lead to 14 points :48 into the second half when Red Raiders senior Shahn Alston scampered 54 yards to the endzone, cutting the Rangers lead to 27-14.

North responded just 1:30 later when Sandstrom broke off a 52-yard touchdown run with 9:35 left on the clock.

The Red Raiders fumbled the ball on the next drive and Josh Fenick took the fumble 75 yards to the endzone effectively ending any chance of a Harvey comeback.

The Rangers offense all on the ground racked up 356 yards on 39 attempts in the game. While the Red Raiders offense put up 405 yards, 258 through the air but could not overcome offensive miscues and the North ground game led by Harris’s 23 carries total 227 yards. USC commit Alston had 15 touches for 149 yards.

Next week the Red Raiders will travel to Lakewood to take on the Rangers who are 1-1. North will be at home for their home opener when they host the Madison Blue Streaks who got in the win column this week and are 1-1..
