Gutsy Skippers comeback to beat Bison 22-12

(PERRY, OH) - On Thursday night the Fairport Harbor Skippers (1-3) played their first home game of the 2026 football season, sort of. The game at Perry High School, which is their home field this season while R.A. Greig Field in Fairport is being totally renovated.
The Skippers entered the game 0-1 after not having a game week one, losing to rival St. John week two and cancelled their week three game due to injuries on their already shorthanded roster which is due to some unforeseen late transfers which are still being investigated. They welcomed the Beachwood Bison (2-2).
The Skippers, however, played with guts and heart all night as multiple players were cramping due to the heat and hydration issues came back and stunned the Bison 22-12.
The Bison got on the board first midway through the second quarter with 5:56 left on the clock when on the first play after a Skipper’s turnover the Bison took advantage when Beachwood senior quarterback Jordan Uria hit sophomore De’Andre Sims which resulted in a 48-yard Bison touchdown. They could not convert the two-point conversion and led 6-0.
The third quarter began as the score remained 6-0. It changed quickly when with 9:09 left on the third quarter clock freshman Allante Bush scored from 6 yards out giving the Bison a 12-0 lead after the 2 pt conversion failed once again.
The Skippers who’s offense produced just 18 yards in the first half responded on the first play of the following drive when junior QB Landyn Muzzin hit open freshman Jayden Moehnert and the speedy freshman national champion track star took the ball 68 yards for the Skippers first TD of the season. The Skipper’s 2 pt try failed and their deficit was six at 12-6.
Just 1:04 later Skipper’s sophomore Kohen Galm intercepted Uria’s pass and took it 55 yards to the endzone. The Skipper’s converted the 2 pt conversion and had their first lead of the season 14-12 and never looked back.
The Skippers intercepted Uria six times including two pick sixes.
The final pick six of the came with :23 left on the clock in the third quarter when Jacob Drennen took it 85 yards to the house and put Fairport up 22-12. The interception was Drennen’s second of three in the game.
The fourth quarter though it was scoreless was definitely eventful as there were a couple interceptions and then an approximate delay of 20 minutes as the game officials sorted out who had possession of the ball after Beachwood blocked a Fairport punt. Eventually after a look at the rule book, it was determined that the skippers had possession. After the long delay, the Skipper went three and out on the next possession.
When the game finally ended the jubilant skipper notched their first victory of the year. Fairport head coach John Nagle commented after, “This just shows the fight in the Fairport Skippers. Facing adversity, last year, this year, with numbers.” The second-year coach went on to say, “They practice hard and they come out and finish like that just shows that everything we are doing is the right way.”
The Skippers will travel to Brooklyn to face the Hurricanes next Thursday at 7 pm when they try to pick up their second win of the season.
