Indians slide past Reds 2-0

Things were quiet until the top of the fifth inning when Mike Clevinger rolled his ankle. Luckily, he was okay and was able to come back out at the top of the next inning. Cesar Hernandez got an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to give Cleveland the 1-0 lead. Jose Ramirez was up next; he hit the ball on the ground to the Reds shortstop Freddy Galvis, who went to second baseman Josh Vanmeter to get the force out on Cesar Hernandez. Oscar Mercado was on second and when Galvis flipped to Vanmeter, he turned around third and charged him to score. This gave the Indians a 2-0 lead and with no other runs, this ended up being the final score.

Another day - another game - another great start from an Indians' starting pitcher. Mike Clevinger gave up no runs in 5 2/3 innings pitched while walking five, striking out four, and giving up two hits. Clevinger continues to struggle with his command. The Reds starter Tejay Antone also turned in a solid performance as well as he went 4 1/3 innings, giving up one run, two hits, four walks, and four strikeouts.

Looking to watch: The Indians and Reds will complete their four-game home and home series Thursday night from Progressive Field at 6:10pm. Carlos Carrasco will take the mound for the Indians – he is 1-1 on the year with a 3.75 ERA. The Reds will counter with Luis Castillo who is 0-1 with a 4.75 ERA.
