After a successful opening night on Thursday night when the Lake County Captains defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps 3-2 on a walk off hit by Jorma Rodriguez the two teams attempted to conclude their short two game set on Friday Night. Unfortunately, the game had to be suspended at the start of the top of the fourth inning with the Captains trailing 6-3.

The TinCaps struck first in the first inning off Captains starter Juan Hillman. In the inning Hillman allowed two singles, a double and a home run to give the TinCaps a 3-0 lead before the Captains even came to bat.

The Captains answered with a single run in the bottom of the first inning off Fort Wayne starter Aaron Leasher. The inning began with a single by Ernie Clement. With Austin Wade at the plate Clement was gunned down at second base by Fort Wayne catcher and Twinsburg native Jalen Washington. Wade then singled to shortstop. Wade then steals second base. Nolan Jones then drew a base on balls and Oscar Gonzalez was hit by a Leasher pitch to load the bases. After Will Benson struck out, Michael Rivera drew a base on balls and Wade scored the Captains first run of the game.

The TinCaps struck for three more runs in the second inning off Hillman. All the damage could not be blamed on Hillman as the Captains defense committed two errors in the second for a total of three thru the first two innings. Of the six runs that Hillman surrendered only three were earned.

The Captains chipped away with another run in the second inning when Todd Isaacs and Tyler Friis hit back to back doubles. Isaacs scored the Captains second run on the game on Friis' two bagger.

There is a possibility that the game could be completed in Fort Wayne in the next two days, but nothing has been determined at this time.

The Captains and TinCaps will now head to Fort Wayne to play a two-game series (and possibly complete the suspended game) at Parkview Field. Game one will be Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Lefty Kirk McCarty will take the mound for the Captains. McCarty was drafted in the seventh round by the Cleveland Indians in the 2017 draft. Mason Thompson, a righty will be the hill for the TinCaps. Thompson was a third-round pick by the San Diego Padres in 2016.
