Captains stung by Bees 4-2

Entering Wednesday Night's game at Classic Park the Lake County Captains were playing good baseball winners of 6 of their last 10 games and owners of the best record in the Midwest League at 13-6. The visiting Burlington Bees had other ideas as they defeated the Captains 4-2.

The Bees scored their first two runs early in the first inning. With one out in the frame Captains starting pitcher Shao-Ching Chiang surrendered three straight doubles accounting for both Bees runs.

The Captains came back with a single run in the bottom of the second when Ka'ai Tom tripled. Tom scored on hitter later when Connor Marabell doubled. The run cut the Bees lead to one at 2-1.

The Captains tied the game with a single run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Burlington came back to take the lead with single runs in the eighth and ninth inning off Captains reliever Jared Robinson. Robinson suffered the loss falling to 0-1 with a 3.14 ERA.

Eric Alonzo picked up the win in relief for Burlington. Alonzo pitched two scoreless innings picking up his first win of the year against no losses with an ERA of 0.00.

The Captains and Bees will play the rubber game of the series on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. Righty Jose Rodriguez will take the mound for the Bees. Rodriguez is 1-1 with a 2.40 ERA. Lefty Tom Pannone will make the start for Lake County. Pannone is 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA.
