Captains even series with Timber Rattlers with 5-2 win

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains looked to rebound from a 10-5 game one loss in their three-game series with the visiting Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Wednesday morning. The Captain evened the series with a 5-2 victory in front of 1,687 fans at Classic Park.

The Timber Rattlers got on the board first in the top of fourth inning. Wisconsin scored one run off Captains starter Kirk McCarty.

The Captains responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning. The big blow in the inning was a two-run double by Austen Wade. The Captains led 3-1.

The Timber Rattlers crept to within one run in the top of the seventh with a single run of Captains reliever Felix Tati.

Lake County added two insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull ahead by three runs at 5-2.
Wade continued to have a nice year offensively. As he went 2 for 3 on the day with the double and two RBI. Captains interim manager Kyle Hudson (Captains manager Luke Carlin is on a scheduled break) raved after the game about Wade saying, “Best thing about Austin is his work ethic and how he works when no one is around. He leads by example.”

McCarty picked up the win for Lake County. McCarty went five innings allowing just the one run on three hits. He issued five base on balls and struck out eight Wisconsin batters. With the win McCarty improves to 1-1 with an 8.55 ERA. Tati picked up the save working four innings, allowing one run on three hits. Tati also issued one base on balls and struck out three. The save was his first of the season. Timber Rattlers starter Christian Taugner was tagged with the loss. In five innings he allowed eight hits, issued three base on balls and struck out four Captains. With the loss Taugner falls to 0-4 with a 4.50 ERA.

The two teams will conclude the series on Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. Carlos Herrera will be on the mound for the Timber Rattlers. Herrera, a righty is 0-2 with a 3.86 ERA. The Captains will counter with their own righthander, Elijah Morgan. Morgan is 1-0 with a 1.37 ERA.
