Captains end skid, beating Whitecaps 4-2

Entering Tuesday night's game against the visiting West Michigan Whitecaps the host Lake County Captains were in the midst of their first three game losing streak of the season.

​Fortunately for the Captains and the 1,025 fans in attendance the losing skid ended as Lake County held off the Whitecaps 4-2.

The Whitecaps got on the board first with a single run in the fourth inning off Lake County starter Tom Pannone.

The Captains put all four of their runs on the board in the sixth inning off of West Michigan starter Sandy Baez.  The inning included four single and a base on balls.

Lake County shortstop Willi Castro had a nice night at the plate as he went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Pannone picked up the win for Lake County and improves to 3-2 with a 2.62 ERA.  Baez suffered the loss for the Whitecaps falling to 0-4 with a 4.76 ERA.

With the win the Captains improve to 20-12 and move back into first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.​

The three game series and short homestand will conclude on Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m.  Righty Jordan Smith will take the mound for the Whitecaps.  Smith enters the game with a record of 3-0 with a 3.86 ERA.  Casey Shame will tow the rubber for the Captains.  Shane, is also a righthander is 3-1 with a 2.35 ERA.
