Captains shut down Whitecaps 7-1

CAPTAINS BEAT WRITER
On Tuesday night the Lake County Captains snapped a three game losing skid by knocking off the visiting West Michigan Whitecaps 4-2.  On Wednesday morning the two teams played the rubber game of the series and the Captains now have a two game winning streak as they defeated the Whitecaps 6-2. 

​The Captains jumped on the Whitecaps early as they put four runs on the board in the second inning.  The second inning was the beginning of a big day for Captains center fielder Kai'ai Tom.  Tom doubled in the inning driving in two of the four runs.

Lake County put two more runs on the board in the when Bobby Ison and Tom hit back to back doubles.  Tom's double drove in his third run of the day.  

Tom finished the day 3 for 4 with two runs scored and three RBI.

Captains starting pitcher Casey Shane picked up the win.  Shane, a righty pitched five and two thirds innings allowing one run, it was earned.  With the win Shane improves to 4-1 with a 2.23 ERA.  Whitecaps starter Jordan Smith was the losing pitcher.  Smith, pitched four and one third innings allowing six runs all earned.  The loss was Smith's first of the season and he falls to 3-1 with a 5.33 ERA.

The Captains now head out on the road for a short four game series in Bowling Green, Kentucky against the Hot Rods.  Game one is Thursday at 7:35 p.m.  Lefty Sam Hentges will make the start for the Captains.  Hentges is 1-2 with a 4.91 ERA.  Bowling Green will counter with a lefty of their own Genesis Cabrera.  Cabrera is 3-1 with 0.81.
