Captains earn series split with 6-3 comeback win over Loons

The Lake County Captains finished up their four game series with the Great Lakes Loons on Sunday afternoon. After dropping the first two games of the series the Captains won on Saturday night and won on Sunday 6-3 to split the series in front of 3,368 fans at Classic Park.
The Loons drew first blood with a single run in the first inning of Captains starter Brock Hartson. Hartson gave up a double to Gage Green and then a single to Jake Henson to drive home Green and give the Loons the early 1-0 lead.
The Captains tied the game in the third inning when Willi Castro belted his fifth home run of the season over the left field wall.
The Captains took the lead and put it away in the seventh inning with five runs. The inning was highlighted by Francisco Mejia's seventh home run of the year. The home run came with Tyler Krieger on second base after he had doubled to drive in Willi Castro.
The home run for Mejia was his second hit of the game, he had singled in the third inning which extended his hitting streak to 24 which is now the longest hitting streak in Captain's history.
Hartson pitched well for Lake County allowing only one run, scattering five hits, issuing one base on balls and striking out four batters in five innings of work, but did not factor in the decision. Reliever Courtland Cox pitched three innings in relief of Hartson, allowed two runs, both earned and picked up the win. With the win Cox improves to 4-1 with a 5.72 ERA.
Loon’s reliever Nolan Long took the loss. Long pitched two innings and allowed five runs, four earned on his way to the loss. With the defeat he falls to 3-7 with a 5.72 ERA
The Captains will now head to South Bend, Indiana to take on the South Bend Cubs for four games beginning Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Lefty Tom Pannone will be on the mound for the Captains. Pannone, enters the game 4-4 with a 3.41 ERA. Adbert Alzolay will take the mound for the Cubs. Alzolay, is 5-3 with a 4.15 ERA.
