The Lake County Captains returned to Classic Park on Wednesday night after an eight game road trip to take on the visiting Cedar Rapids Kernels.  When they took the field they had a couple new teammates, Michael Brantley and Roberto Perez.  The two Cleveland Indians were on rehab assignments with the Captains.  Unfortunately the Captains fell short and lost their seventh straight game, this time 8-4.

Brantley looks good in his first at bat in the first inning as he doubled down the right field line.  Perez then drew a walk, but the Captains could not get either of the rehabbing Indians home and trailed the Kernels 1-0.  The Kernels picked up a run in the first inning off Captains starter Brock Hartson.

The Captains tied the game in the second inning on a home run by Jose Medina.  The solo shot by Medina was his fourth of the season.

Brantley and Perez had their second at bats of the game in the third inning with game still tied.  Brantley singled to right field.  Perez then hit into a double play to end the inning.

By Brantley's third at bat in the fifth inning the Captains were trailing 6-2.  The Indians left fielder grounded out to the second baseman and the inning was over.

Perez led off the sixth inning for the Captains and grounded out to third base.  That was the end of the night for both Brantley and Perez as they were replaced in left field and at catcher.

Brantley will continue his rehab with the Akron RubberDucks on Thursday Night and Perez's future has not yet been determined.

The Captains, minus Brantley and most likely Perez will play on Thursday morning at 11 for game two of their series with the Kernels.  Lefty Lachlan Wells will take the mound for the Cedar Rapids.  Wells is 1-1 with a 1.76 ERA.  Shao-Ching Chiang will be on the mound for the Captains.  Chiang, a righty is 5-6 with a 4.16 ERA
