Blue Devils run over Trojans 48-18

(WICKLIFFE, OH) - Friday night at Wickliffe Memorial Stadium the Blue Devils had one of the toughest tasks in sports to move forward without one of your leaders. The Blue Devils lost junior quarterback Dom Porcello last week to a knee injury in the 41-0 win at Woodward against the Polar Bears. The injury occurred in the first quarter and Porcello is out for the season.
It was time for the Blue Devils to do what they have done best for most of the last half century, run the ball. With sophomore QB Jagz Zivnoska under center they did just that and defeated the visiting Trinity Trojans 48-18 pounding out 495 yards on the ground and 526 yards of total offense.
The Blue Devils got on the board just :53 and three plays into the game. On the second play of the game senior Nick Obozcky through the Trinity defensive line and scampered 56 yards until he was tackled at the seven-yard line. He scored on the next play giving the Blue Devils a 7-0 lead with 11:07 left on the first quarter clock. This was just the beginning of a huge night for the senior.
Less than two minutes later Zivnoska would keep the ball and run it in from 25 yards out giving the Blue Devils a 14-0 lead with 9:10 on the first quarter clock.
Trinity cut the Blue Devils lead to 14-6 with five-yard TD run by Robert Davis, they failed to convert the two-point conversion. That’s how the first quarter ended with the Blue Devils up by eight points.
Oboczky scored his second TD of the game 8:31 left in the first half when he carried the ball in from 11 yards out. Braylen Torrence hit his third extra point of the night to give Wickliffe a 21-6 lead, which was the score at halftime.
Both teams scored two TDs in the third quarter, of course Oboczky got in the end zone again on a nine-yard run with 8:27 left on the third quarter clock.
The big play of the quarter came with 5:21 left on the clock when junior Omir Taylor found Lawrence Wright for a 61-yard TD reception. The Wickliffe lead was just 27-18. That was it for the Trojans.
The Blue Devils scored the final three touchdowns of the game, two by junior Jayden Johnson (10 yards and 12 yards) and then of course Oboczky finished his night with eight-yard TD with 4:39 left in the final quarter.
Oboczky finished the night with four touchdowns, 251 yards on 28 carries leading the Blue Devils potent rushing attack. Johnson finished the game with 20 carries racking up 165 and 2 TDs.
In his first varsity start Zivnoska was 1 for 2 through the air for 31 yards and carried the ball five times for 46 yards and a touchdown.
The Blue Devils defense held the Trojans offense to 223 yards.
The Wickliffe road warriors will travel again next week. The trip will be a little shorter than their first two away games when they travel to Beachwood to take on the 2-2 Bison and look to improve to 5-0. Game time is 7 pm.
