Indians win streak now at six with 2-0 shut out of Pirates

INDIANS BEAT WRITER
The Cleveland Indians defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates Thursday evening by a final score of 2-0 from PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The Indians got things going in the second inning of Thursday night's ball game. Franmil Reyes got a one out single followed by a single from Tyler Naquin. Beau Taylor then singled to score Reyes and put the Indians in front 1-0. The next scoring chance for the Indians came in the 8th inning when they had the bases loaded and nobody out. However, they only got one run out of it and it was unearned run. Beau Taylor grounded out to first and the Pirates' first baseman Josh Bell made a throwing error that allowed Franmil Reyes to score and make it 2-0 Tribe. 


Shane Bieber was once again was dominant. He went six innings, giving up six hits and no runs and he struck out 11. With those 11 strikeouts, Bieber now has 65 strikeouts in his first six starts. He is tied for fourth most strikeouts through six starts since 1893. He trails Nolan Ryan and Pedro Martinez (twice). 


Next up for Cleveland is a weekend series with the Detroit Tigers. Game one is scheduled for a 7:10 pm first pitch from Progressive Field Friday evening. Adam Plutko will take the mound for the Tribe; he is 1-1 with a 3.95 ERA on the year. He faced the Tigers on August 16th and did not fare too good, going just 2 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and three runs. The Tigers will counter with Michael Fulmer. His ERA on the year is 7.56. He saw the Indians back ON August 16th, going 2 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and three runs.
