Four-goal first period leads Ice Breakers over Dashers 7-4

(MENTOR, OH) - Early in the first period Brody Duncan got hit hard and left for the locker room but returned after missing only a few shifts. The first goal for Mentor was a short handed marker scored by Jon Buttitta, assisted by Joseph Keenan and Nathan Farrington. On the same penalty kill, the Dashers got a power play on a slap shot from Fred Hein assisted by Johan Hoglund. The next Ice Breakers goal came on the power play at 15:53 with a wrist shot from just beyond the faceoff circle; it was shot by Nathan Farrington and assisted by Henry Berger and Mark Essery. Less than three minutes later, the Ice Breakers scored another power play goal, this time by Steven Fowler after he received a pass from Jon Buttitta; the secondary assist went to Parker Moskal. The next Ice Breakers goal came just 38 seconds later as Henry Berger got a pass from Alexander Morrow and was able to score. This was made possible by Mark Essery as he took away a pass at center.
The second Danville goal came less than two minutes into the second period. AJ Tesoriero picked up a rebound from an Artem Barakov shot. Mentor was able to extend the lead back to three a short time later when Parker Moskal intercepted a pass right in front of the Dashers’ net and was able to score. The next goal came from the Dashers after a shot from the blue line. Tanner Hildebrandt tipped off of Jesse Neher’s stick and into the net. The next goal came at 15:55 of the period from Tanner Hildebrandt. Assist went to Jesse Neher and Fred Hein. The final goal of the second was an Ice Breakers goal from Nathan Farrington; the Dashers were unable to clear and Farrington’s shot went off the post and in, assisted by Mark Essery and Alexander Morrow.
The third period was a chippy one which saw multiple scrums. The only goal came exactly five minutes in from the Ice Breakers. It was a wraparound goal scored by Jon Buttitta with assists from Parker Moskal and Vaughn Clouston.
The Dashers started Harley White in goal and he stopped 33 of 40 shots faced. The Icebreakers countered with Austyn Roudebush, who stopped 33 of 37 shots faced. The first star went to Jon Buttitta who had two goals and two assists; the second star went to Nathan Farrington, who had two goals and an assist; and the third star went to Parker Moskal with a goal and two assists.
