(EASTLAKE, OH) – The Lake County Captains entered action on Thursday night 2-0 at Classic Park in the young 2021 season. They were taking on the Fort Wayne TinCaps in game three of their six game series. The Captains once again scored early securing the victory 8-2 moving to 6-3 on the season and moving into first place in the High-A Central East Division.

The Captains once again had multiple innings scoring to rack up the eight runs. Lake County scored two runs in the second innings, single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh inning and blew it open in the eighth inning with three runs.

Captains starting pitcher Raymond Burgos was also a story in the game. Burgos a big lefty who was drafted by the Indians in the 18th round in 2018 was making his first start since May 17th, 2019. Burgos who had Tommy John surgery prior to the Indians drafting him injured his triceps in 2019 and was shut down for the remainder of the season. Then the pandemic hit in 2020 and further setback Burgos’s return. The big lefty never missed a beat as he pitched three scoreless innings allowing only two hits while striking out four batters. The short outing was because the Indians organization is going to bring him back cautiously, so he was on a pitch limit and threw 37 pitches, 25 of which were strikes.

The Captains offense tallied 17 hits on the night. Seven different players had at least two hits. Victor Nova had the big night for Lake County as he went 3 for 4 which included a home run, three runs scored and an RBI. Will Brennan also had a nice night going 2 for 4 with a double, base on balls and an RBI. Brennan is now hitting .355 on the young season.

Captains reliever Kevin Coulter picked up the win for the Captains. Coulter pitched four scoreless innings in relief of Burgos. In the four innings Coulter allowed just one base on balls while striking out five TinCaps. The win was Coulter’s second of the season he is now 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA. Fort Wayne starter Edgar Martinez took the loss for the TinCaps. Martinez went just three and one third innings allowing three runs, all earned on eight hits. He also issued two base on balls while striking out two Captains. With the loss Martinez falls to 0-1 with a 5.68 ERA.

The Captains and TinCaps will play game four of the six game series on Friday night at 6:35 p.m. Right hander Tanner Burns will make the start for the Captains. Burns is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Moises Lugo will take the hill for the TinCaps. Lugo is 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA.
