(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains and Lansing Lugnuts played the final game of their four-game series on Friday night. The Lugnuts took the first two game and the Captains snatched game three last night holding off a late Lugnuts rally to win 5-4. The Captains came away with a split of the four-game series finishing it up with a 5-1 win.

The Captains got on the board first in the opening inning when Clark Scolamiero and Jose Fermin had back to back singles to start the frame. Bo Naylor then drew a base on balls to load the bases. Jonathan Engelmann followed by grounding into a double play and Scloamiero trotted home with the first run of the game.

The Captains added to their lead in the fourth inning when with one out Engelmann belted his second home run of the season over the left center field fence. After Lansing starter Sean Wymer got Daniel Schneemann to pop out, then he issued a base on balls to Miguel Jerez. Josh Rolette then doubled to the center field gap and Jerez came all the way home giving the Captains a 3-0 lead. The RBI was his 19th of the season. He was not done.

Meanwhile Captains starter Matt “Shaggy” Turner was pitching a brilliant game. He went five innings allowing just one hit. He did issue four base on balls but struck out three Lugnuts hitters.

The Captains added to the lead in the sixth inning when Naylor and Engelmann had back to back singles to start the inning. That was the end of the night for Lansing’s starter. Randy Pondler entered the game for Lansing. He immediately got Schneemann to roll over and hit a ground ball to second base, retiring Engelmann for the first out of the inning. Schneemann then stole his fourth base of the season putting men on second and third base. Jerez then drew a base on balls to load the bases. Rolette then came up and singled to center field driving home Naylor and extending the Captains lead to 4-0. The RBI was his 20th of the season. After Ike Freeman struck out Quentin Holmes singled and Schneemann scored the Captains fifth run.

The Lugnuts put a run on the board in the eighth inning when Luis Valdez issued a base on balls to Hunter Steinmetz. Steinmetz then scored on a wild pitch by Valdez.

Turner picked up the win for Lake County and improves to 2-0 on the season with an ERA of 1.72. Wymer took the loss for the Lugnuts. With the loss he falls to 5-11 with a 5.97 ERA.

The Captains will now head out on the road for seven games. The first four will be in Dayton against the Dragons. Game one is Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field. Righthander Lyon Richardson will be on the mound for the Dragons. Richardson is 2-8 with a 4.66 ERA. The Captains will send Eli Lingos to the hill. Lingos, a lefty is 2-2 with a 4.24 ERA.
