(EASTLAKE, OH) - On Tuesday night the Lake County Captains wrapped up a short two game series with the visiting Dayton Dragons. After falling 2-1 in a pitcher’s duel in game one the Captains rebounded to take the series finale 3-2 in front of 3,395 at Classic Park.

The Captains got on the board first with three runs in the second inning. The inning began when Oscar Gonzalez singled on a Texas Leaguer to center field. While Will Benson was at the plate Gonzalez moved to second when he swiped his third base of the season. After Benson struck out Jose Vicente singled to center field and Gonzalez came home with the first run of the game give Lake County a 1-0 lead. The big blow in the inning came next when Jose Medina came to the plate and smashed a laser over the right field fence at 98 mph for a two-run homer. The long ball was Medina's third of the season. The Captains now led 3-0.

The Captains pitchers were cruising along through six innings of shutout baseball as Juan Hillman started for Lake County and went five scoreless followed by Nick Sandlin who pitched one scoreless inning striking out two batters. Then came Jonathan Teaney. Teaney entered the contest with a mammoth 8.69 ERA did himself or the team no favors as he worked one inning and allowed two runs, both earned to shrink a three-run lead to one run. In Teaney's one unsuccessful inning of work he allowed one hit and issued a base on balls. Thankfully for the sake of the children in the crowd they were not subject to any more horror as Kyle Nelson relieved Teaney to begin the eighth inning.

Hillman picked up the win for Lake County. In his five-shutout innings he allowed only three hits, while issuing three base on balls and striking out six Dragons. With the win Hillman improves to 2-8 with a 5.11 ERA. Dayton starter Tyler Mondile was tagged with the loss. Mondile went five innings allowing three runs, all earned on seven base hits. Mondile also struck out five in the losing effort. With the loss Mondile falls to 2-7 with a 6.51 ERA.

The Captains will now head south to Dayton for a two-game series with the Dragons at Fifth Third Field. Game one on Wednesday night Packy Naughton will be on the mound for the Dragons. Naughton, a lefty is 3-8 with a 4.84 ERA. The Captains will send righthander Gregori "Vasky" Vasquez to the hill. Vasky is 2-4 with a 4.00. .
