Blue Devils prevail in battle with Badgers 68-55

Friday night at the Wickliffe High School Gym the Wickliffe Blue Devils boys’ basketball team and their 3-1 record welcomed the Berkshire Badgers who 
came into the contest winless at 0-6. Things were tight early but, in the End, the Blue Devils kept the Badgers winless as they pulled away in the end for the victory 68-55

The game was a back and forth affair for most of the first half as the lead changed hands nine different times. The Blue Devils led by as many as eight points at 17-9 with 1:10 remaining in the quarter, but the Badgers rallies to make it a four point game at 17-13 when the quarter ended.

The Badgers closed the gap and even took the lead several times in the second quarter, outscoring Wickliffe 13-12 in the period to cut the Blue Devils lead to 29-26 at the break. Blue Devils Senior Dallas Zollars and Junior Brenton Petras led all scorers in the first half with seven points each. Berkshire Junior Jake Sinkenbring led the Badgers with six points in the first half.

The second half was to close for comfort early as Blue Devils coach Marc Lewis commented after the game, he was not happy with his team's effort early. With 5:37 remaining in the third quarter the Badgers took their final lead of the game at 33-32 after Sinkenbring hit a jumper. From that point on the Blue Devils outscored the Badgers 18-11 for the rest of the quarter to take a 50-44 lead heading into the final quarter.

Wickliffe kept the pressure on defensively and looked just good enough offensively to outscore the Badgers 18-11 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Sinkenbring was the leading scorer in the game with 28 points in the losing effort for the Badgers. The Blue Devils had two guys in double figures, Petras led Wickliffe with 12 points, while Junior Anthony Olsen had 10 points. Zollars who missed most of the second half after he received very quick and mysterious technical foul finished with nine points.

The Blue Devils will be back in action next on Friday when they host the Cloverleaf Colts (3-4) at 7:00 p.m. came into the contest winless at 0-6. Things were tight early but, in the End, the Blue Devils kept the Badgers winless as they pulled away in the end for the victory 68-55
