Captains smack around Whitecaps 10-6

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains and West Michigan Whitecaps completed their four-game series on Monday night. The Captains were attempting to win their third straight game to take the series. The Captains achieved their goal and smacked around the Whitecaps 10-6 in front of 2,268 at Classic Park.

The Whitecaps drew first blood with two runs in the first inning off Captains starter Gregori "Vasky" Vasquez.

The Captains struck back and took the lead in the bottom of the first with six runs off West Michigan starter Dane Myers. Myers did not survive the inning and was removed with two outs in the inning. The Captains led 6-2.

The Captains increased their lead to 7-2 in the second inning.  

The Whitecaps pulled to within three runs in the top of the fourth inning when the final two runs they scored off Vasquez. Only one of the runs in the inning was earned.

The Captains answered back in the bottom of the fourth with a single run. The Captains lead was now four runs at 8-4. The run came courtesy of a solo home run off the bat off Nolan Jones, it was his eleventh of the season.

Lake County extended their lead to 10-4 in the seventh inning with two more runs.

The Whitecaps closed to within four runs at 10-6 with single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
Vasky picked up the win for Captains going five innings, allowing four runs, three earned on five base hits. He also issued one base on balls and struck out six. With the win he improves to 3-4 with a 3.86 ERA. Myers took the loss for the Whitecaps. Myers went only two thirds of an inning allowing the first six Captains runs, they were all earned on five hits. He also issued two base on balls while striking out one Captains. With the loss he falls to 3-2 with a 4.01.

The Captains will now head on the road for a six-game road trip to Peoria, Illinois to play the Chiefs and then Cedar Rapids, Iowa to play the Kernels. Trip will begin in Peoria with a three-game series on Wednesday night at 8:00 p.m. at Dozer Park. Righthander Alvaro Sejias will be on the mound for the Chiefs. Sejias is 2-4 with a 5.03 ERA. Francisco Perez will take the mound for the Captains. Perez, a lefty is 6-5 with a 3.90 ERA.
