Captains bats go silent in 5-1 loss to Bees

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains and Burlington Bees played game two Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. of their three-game series. The 2,434 fans at Classic Park did not go home happy as the Captains fell to the Bees 5-1.

The Bees stung first as they scored a run in the top of the first inning off Captains starter Francisco Perez.

The Captains returned the favor in the bottom of the inning with a run off Burlington starter Denny Brady. The run came when Gabriel Mejia led off the game with a double to right field. One batter later Mejia advanced to third base when Richard Palacios reached base on a fielding error by Burlington first baseman Alexis Olmeda. Mejia trotted home when Oscar Gonzalez followed with a sacrifice fly to right field and the game was tied 1-1. 

The Bees regained the lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Harrison Wenson. The home run by the Bees catcher was his sixth home run of the season and gave Burlington a 2-1 lead.

Burlington extended their lead in the top of the fifth inning when Leonardo Rivas drew a walk to lead off the inning. Rivas moved to second when the next batter Torii Hunter, Jr. singled. After Perez retired the next two Bees, Spencer Griffin singled to center field on a ground ball and Rivas scored Burlington's third run to extend the lead to 3-1. 

The offensive swarm continued in the eighth inning for Burlington when Griffin singled off Captains reliever Riley Echols to lead off the inning. Griffin then road home on the power of Julio Garcia when he belted his fifth home run of the season over the right field fence to give the Bees a 5-1 lead.
Brady picked up the win for the Bees. The righthander went six strong innings allowing only one run, it was earned. He scattered five hits and issued two base on balls while striking out two Captains. With the win Brady improves to 1-3 with a 5.82 ERA. Perez took the loss for Lake County. The lefty Perez went six innings allowing three runs all earned on seven hits. He also issued three base on balls and struck out nine Bees. With the loss Perez falls to 7-7 with a 4.08 ERA.

The two clubs will conclude the series on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. Lefty Max Herrmann will be on the mound for the Bees. Herrmann is 1-5 with a 5.64 ERA. Jean Carlos Mejia will make the start for the Captains. Mejia, a righty is 2-4 with a 3.42 ERA.
