(EASTLAKE, OH) - On Saturday night the Lake County Captains returned home to open a seven game homestand and a four-game series with the Great Lakes Loons. It was also Cleveland Sports history Night. Among the Cleveland sports legends in attendance were Hanford Dixon, Reggie Langhorne, Butch Reynolds, Zoltan Mesko, Jim Chones, Campy Russell and Hector Marinaro. Unfortunately for the 5,908 fans in attendance the Captains wearing Cleveland Browns themed jerseys saw the same result as the Browns as they lost 9-2.

The Loons notched the scoreboard first when they scored two runs in the third inning off Captains starter Gregori "Vasky" Vasquez.

Great Lakes extended the lead in the fourth inning with a single run, which came on a solo home run off the bat of Luke Heyer. The homer for Heyer was his first of the season with the Loons.

Cleveland Indians reliever on a rehab stint came into start the sixth inning on the mound for the Captains. Thing did not go well, at least on the scoreboard as Miller threw 19 pitches and gave up four runs, two earned on three hits, including a triple. He also struck out one batter and then was removed from the game. Maiker Manzanillo came in to relieve Miller and did not fair very well as he gave up two runs, both earned, before getting out of the inning.

The Captains attempted a comeback in the seventh inning with two solo home runs. The first long ball of the inning came off the bat of the bat of Oscar Gonzalez. The home run by Gonzalez was his twelfth of the season. Two hitters later Nolan Jones smashed a pitch to straight away center field for his 14th home run of the season to pull the Captains to within 7 at 9-2. Interesting the home run by Gonzalez was the Captains first hit of the game. Great Lake starter Edwin Uceta had held the Captains hitless until that point.

Uceta picked up the win, he went seven innings allowing just the two runs on three hits. He issued two base on balls, while striking out 11 Captains hitters. With the win Uceta improves to 4-6 with a 3.46 ERA. “Vasky” took the loss for Lake County. Vasquez went five innings allowing three runs, all earned on six hits. He also issued two base on balls while striking out two Loons. With the loss “Vasky” falls to 5-5 with a 3.59 ERA.

Sunday night the two clubs will play game two of the series at 7:00 p.m. Righthander Alfredo Tavarez will be on the mound for the Loons. Tavarez is 1-3 with a 3.22 ERA. Lefty Francisco Perez will take the mound for Lake County. The southpaw is 7-7 with a 4.07 ERA.
