(EASTLAKE, OH) - Friday night at Classic Park the Lake County Captains played game four of their six game series against the Dayton Dragons. Cleveland’s number 1 pick from a year ago Gavin Williams was the starter for Lake County and was impressive as he struck out 11 batters in 4.2 innings while giving up three runs. He did not get the decision. The Dragons did just enough damage against the Captains bullpen scoring one off the pen to secure the win 4-3.
The Captains jumped on Dayton starter Connor Phillips for three runs in the first inning. It would be an understatement to say Phillips lacked control in the first inning as he issued two base on balls to the first two batter and then uncorked two wild pitches which allowed both of those runners to score as well as Jhonkensy Noel to give the Captains a 3-0 lead after one inning.
Phillips settled down after the rough first inning and didn’t allow another un in the game and only two more hits going 4.1 innings. Meanwhile the Dragons got two runs in the second inning off Williams cutting the Captains three run lead to just a run. Williams allowed a lead off double to Allan Cerda and the two singles to Jose Torres and Nick Quintana doing all of the damage in the inning.
Williams night ended in the fifth inning after with two outs and Quintana on first whom he walked earlier in the inning. He was replaced by Hunter Stanley who allowed a single to the first batter he face Albert Almora, Jr who drove home Quintana tying the game at 3-3.
Stanley took the loss when he gave up the winning run in the seventh inning when recorded the first two out then issued free passes to Quintan and Quin Cotton. Quintana scored what ended up being the winning run when Almora, Jr. once again singled driving him home, giving the Dragons a 4-3 lead.
Frainger Aranguren picked up the win for the Dragons improving to 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA. Stanley falls to 0-1 with a 1.35 ERA.
Saturday afternoon the Captains and Dragons will finish up the series with a doubleheader starting at 12 pm. Doug Nikhazy will make the start for Lake County in game 1. This will be Nikhazy’s first start of the season. Dayton will send James Marinan to the hill. Marinan is 0-1 with a 18.00 ERA. In game 2 Tommy Mace will tow the rubber for Lake County. Mace is 0-1 with a 27.00 ERA. Dayton has tabbed Andrew Abbott to take the hill. Abbott is 0-0 with a 2.25 ERA..
