Captains victimized by Loons long ball 4-1

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains (12-14, 3rd place) returned home on Tuesday to commence a six-game series with the Great Lakes Loons (15-12, 2nd place). The Captains are coming off a five-game road trip to Dayton where they dropped three of five. The Loons entered play on a five-game winning streak all against the Beloit Sky Carp who have worst record in the Midwest League at 8-19. The Captains eliminated the Loons from the playoffs last season on the second to last day. Unfortunately, the Loons took game one 4-1 send the Classic Park crowd home with a frown on their face.
The Loons got on the board first in the second inning of Captains starter Tanner Bibee. The inning began with back-to-back singles to Aldrich DeJongh and Kekia Rios. Aldrich moved to third on the Rios hit. DeJongh then scored when Bibee uncorked a wild pitch, crossing up Captains catcher Mike Amditis and giving the Loons an early 1-0.
The Captains tied the game in the game in the fifth inning when Raynel Delgado belted his first home run of the season to knot game 1-1.
The Loons regained the lead in the sixth inning when Jonny DeLuca hit his eighth home run of the season. One run was not enough as DeLuca struck again in the eighth inning and belted his ninth home run extending the lead to 3-1.
The final blow of the game came in the ninth inning when Rios belted his first home run of the season over the left field fence giving the Loons a 4-1 lead.
Captains’ reliever Randy Labaut took the loss and falls to 2-1 with a 4.09 ERA. Robbie Peto picked up the win for the Loons and improves 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA.
The Captains and Loons will play game two of the series on Wednesday night at 6:35 pm. Lael Lockhart will tow the rubber for the Loons. Lael, a 24-year-old lefty, 9th round pick by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2021 July draft is 1-0 with a 1.06 ERA. The Captains will counter with Aaron Davenport. Davenport, a righthander is 0-2 with a 2.63 ERA..
