(EASTLAKE, OH) - On Wednesday night at Classic Park the Lake County Captains welcomed the visiting Bowling Green Hot Rods. The Captains probably wish that the Hot Rods bus had gotten lost on the way to the ballpark as the Hot Rods ran over the Captains 13-4, sending the 1,369 in attendance home disappointed.

Captains starter Juan Hillman never knew what hit him on Wednesday night as he couldn’t survive the first inning. Hillman recorded only one out while giving up seven runs, all earned on five hits before he was removed from the game after 32 pitches.

Maiker Manzanillo who relieved Hillman to get the final two outs of the first inning stayed on to pitch the second and third innings. The Hot Rods put two more runs on the board in the second inning to increase their lead to 9-0.

Felix Tati came on to pitch start the fourth inning and pitched four frames. Bowling tagged Tati for a single run in the top of the fourth inning to go up 10-0.

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Captains bats came alive. Nolan Jones blasted a solo home run over the right field fence and the Captains closed the gap to 10-1.

In the fifth inning the Captains inched closer as the scored another run when Jose Medina drew a base on balls to begin the inning. Miguel Eladio then doubled to left field driving home Medina with the Captains second run of the game. Eladio was thrown out trying to stretch the double into a triple.

Tati gave up another run in the top of the sixth inning to extend the Bowling Green lead back to nine at 11-2.

The Captains put two runs on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning when Jones hit his second home run of the game and 16th of the season when he smacked a pitch from Bowling Green reliever Tyler Day over the left field fence. One pitch later Jose Vicente blast a Day pitch over the left field fence and the Captains trailed 11-4. The home run for Vicente was his 11th of the season.

Tati pitched his final inning in the seventh and gave up one more run for good measure. The run extended the Hot Rods lead to eight at 12-4.
The Hot Rods scored their final run in the top of the ninth inning when Eleardo Cabrera smashed a solo home run. The home run was his fourth of the game.
Hot Rod’s starter Tommy Romero picked up the win. Romero went five innings and allowed two runs, both earned on five hits. Romero also issued on base on balls and struck out three Captains. With the win Romero improves to 8-3 with a 2.74 ERA. Hillman suffered the loss for the Captains. With the loss Hillman falls to 3-11 with a 5.82 ERA.

The two teams will play game two of their three game series on Thursday night. Resly Linares will take the mound for the Hot Rods. Linares a southpaw is 3-3 with a 3.48 ERA. Gregori Vasquez will make the start for Lake County. "Vasky" a righthander is 5-5 with a 3.59 ERA.
