Errors costly in Captains 5-2 loss to Loons

(EASTLAKE, OH) - .The Lake County Captains and Great Lakes Loons played game two of their six game series on Wednesday night. The Loons took game one 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon. Thing continued to be a struggle for Lake County on Wednesday as the Loons rallied late to bring home the 5-2 win.
The Loons once again got on the board first with a run in the third inning on a solo home run by Edwin Mateo. The long ball was Mateo’s first of the season.
The Captains briefly took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning when Petey Halpin reached base on a fielding error. Halpin then stole second base, his seventh of the season. He rode home one pitch later on Jhonkensy Noel’s seventh home run of the season deep over the left field bleachers.
The Loons tied the game 2-2 in the fifth inning when Imanol Vargas tripled to lead off the inning. He scored one hitter later when Jonny DeLuca hit a sacrifice fly to center field.
The Loons took the lead in the eighth inning of Captains reliever Serafino Brito. The inning was not all Brito’s doing as there were two errors (Joe Naranjo, Angel Martinez). He did allow two doubles and a single which added up to three runs giving the Loons a 5-2 lead.
Ryan Sublette picked up the win for the Loons. Sublette went one and a third innings allowing just two base on balls while striking out two Captains hitters. With the win Sublette improves to 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA. Brito took the loss for Lake County pitching two innings, allowing three runs, one earned on five hits and struck out two. With the loss he falls to 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA.
