Captains fall in pitchers duel 2-1

(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains and West Michigan Whitecaps played game five of their six game series on Saturday night. The two teams split the first four with the Captains winning a pitcher’s duel on Friday night 2-1. Tonight, was another pitcher’s duel as the Whitecaps came out on top 2-1 in front of 4,541 at Classic Park.
The Captains got on the board in the first when Jhonkensy Noel blasted his 13th home run of the season, a solo shot over the left field fence to give Lake County a 1-0 lead.
The Whitecaps tied the game in the top of the third inning when Ulrich Bojarski smashed his sixth home run of the season deep over the center field fence.
The Whitecaps took the lead in the fourth inning when Ben Malgeri reached base on a fielder’s choice then stole second base, his fourth of the season. With Malgeri at second base. Trei Cruz drew a base on balls all of this off Captains starter Doug Nikhazy. The Whitecaps then executed a double steal with runners moving up second and third. Bojarski then struck again and hit a sacrifice-fly and drove home Malgeri to give the Whitecaps a 2-1 lead.
Keider Montero picked up the win for the Whitecaps and improves to 2-1 with a 3.97 ERA. Montero went five and a third innings allowing just the one run on two hits. He issued three free passes and struck out six Captains. Nikhazy took the loss for the Captains. Nikhazy went five innings allowing the two runs, both earned on three hits. He issued six base on balls while striking out two Whitecaps. With the loss he falls to 0-3 with a 4.06 ERA.
The Captains and Whitecaps will finish the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 pm. Jordan Marks who started the first game of the series will be on the mound for West Michigan. Marks is 0-3 with a 4.94 ERA. Lenny Torres will be on the hill for Lake County. Torres is 0-1 with a 2.79 ERA. Torres has made three appearances including two starts.
