(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Lake County Captains played game two of their three game series with the visiting Fort Wayne TinCaps on Thursday night. The TinCaps prevailed in a slug fest 9-8 in game one. Unfortunately for the 1,595 in attendance at Classic Park the Captains were shut out 4-0.
Thursday night was a little bit different than Wednesday night as the TinCaps bats continued to produce and the Lake County bats went silent.
The TinCaps got on the board for the first time in the second inning when Captains starting pitcher Francisco Perez allowed a solo home run to Owen Miller. The home run by Miller was his second of the season and gave the TinCaps a 1-0 lead.
Fort Wayne put two more on the board in the fifth inning. The inning included a base on balls, single and a triple that was the big blow by Jeisson Rosario driving home the two runs and putting the TinCaps ahead 3-0.
The TinCaps plated their final run in the sixth inning and it also came off Perez who did not finish the sixth inning recording only one out in the frame before giving way to reliever Dakody Clemmer who finished the innings.
Meanwhile Fort Wayne starter Osvaldo Hernandez was pitching a gem. Hernandez went six innings allowing only one hit and striking out five Captains. The Captains managed only two hits in the game. Hernandez picked up the win improving to 10-4 with a microscopic 1.81 ERA. Perez took the loss for Lake County and falls to 8-9 with a 4.15 ERA.
The Captains have now lost 12 of their last 14 games and have a record of 18-27 in the second half and 47-68.
The two clubs will finish the series on Friday night. Lefty Tom Cosgrove will be on the mound for the TinCaps. Cosgrove is 2-5 with a 4.34 ERA. Jean Carlos Mejia will take the mound for Lake County. Mejia a righthander is 3-5 with a 2.78 ERA.
