(EASTLAKE, OH) - .The Lake County Captains entered Tuesday night’s series opener with the Fort Wayne TinCaps on three game winning streak and taking four of six from the Great Lakes Loons last week. The Captains kept the momentum and the streak going extending it to four games with a 3-1 win sending the 3,093 in attendance at Classic Park home happy.

The TinCaps took the lead in the second inning when Joshua Mears smacked a two out solo home run deep over the left field wall off Captains starter Rodney Boone. The home run was Mears’ 12th of the season.

The Captains tied the game in the fourth inning when Milan Tolentino reached base on a walk off TinCaps reliever Luke Boyd who entered the game to start the inning in relief of Efrain Contreras who pitched three scoreless innings to start the game. After striking out Joe Naranjo Boyd got Jonathan Rodriguez to ground out to shortstop moving Tolentino to second base. Alexfri Planez then singled, and Tolentino moved to third. With runners at the corners and Petey Halpin at the plate Planez stole second base, his fourth of the season. On the same pitch which was passed ball third strike. Halpin reached first and Tolentino scored tying the game.

The Captains took the lead in the sixth inning when Tolentino led off with a double to centerfield. Tolentino moved to third on a wild pitch Nick Thwaits with Naranjo at the plate. Naranjo then grounded out to first base and Tolentino had to stay put at third base. Jonathan Rodriguez then came to the plate and got the job done with a deep sacrifice-fly to centerfield sending Tolentino home with the go ahead run.

The Captains added a third run in the seventh inning when Halpin belted his third home run of the season down the right field line giving Lake County a 3-1 lead.

Boone picked up the victory for Lake County pitching six innings allowing only one run, it was earned while scattering three hits and striking out seven TinCaps. With the win Boone improves to 2-3 with a 5.59 ERA. Mason Hickman pitched a scoreless ninth for Lake County striking out two and picking up his second save. Thwaits took the loss for the TinCaps and falls to 3-4 with a 3.60 ERA.
